Born in Sunnyvale, CA, Cindy Salgado began her dance training at the age of 3. After graduating from the Juilliard School in 2005 with the Princess Grace Award, she began freelancing in New York. She danced for Aszure Barton & Artists most memorably on tour with Mikhail Baryshnikov, assisted Andy Blankenbuehler in preproduction for Hamilton and other Broadway shows, and assisted and performed for Mia Michaels. She is on faculty with New York City Dance Alliance where she teaches contemporary and improvisation and was Assistant Rehearsal Director for Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. Cindy was a cofounder and teacher for Artists Striving To End Poverty which brought her to South Africa, India, South Florida, and New York to work with children. She co-started a multimedia dance theatre company called Shook Ones in 2014 where among other elements she began to fuse her love of contact improvisation and hustle. Cindy has been a proud member of Crystal Pite’s Kidd Pivot since 2009 touring world wide performing in dance theatre productions. She has been studying contact improv since 2003 and began training in salsa, bachata, hustle, Argentine tango, and zouk over the past 5-7 years. When it comes to social dance she's performed with Sergio Martin Almiron at Milonga Del Barrio and Jonathan Bolano in the Boston Brazilian Dance Festival, and has won and judged Twice as Nice hustle battles in Vancouver. Cindy also choreographed a tango, bachata, contact improv fusion piece for Axis Connect in Los Angeles and created a film of another piece she created there: www.hadsheneveraskedme.com. She teaches contact improvisation in various contemporary dance environments, exchanges with various social dance teachers, and is excited to teach for the Zouk n Play Festival.
